The story and its meaning: A Telugu word inspired the “Ramaiya VastaVaiya” song in Raj Kapoor’s film “Shri 420.” The team, consisting of Shanker, Jaikishan, Shailendra, and Hazrat Jaipuri, visited a roadside hotel in Khandala to order tea and snacks. One day, Shanker hummed the Telugu word “Ramaiah Vastavaiya, Ramaiya Vastavaiya,” meaning “Ramaiah, come quickly.” Jaikishen then started making tabla sounds on the serving table, which led to Hasrat being bored by the repetition.
Shailendra added, “Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Maine Dil Tujhko Diya. The team thought the song could develop into a good song, and Ramaiah eventually came and took the order. The lines and tune were later shared with Raj Kapoor, who loved it all. The lyrics were written keeping the beginning lines intact, and a beautiful Hindi song with a Telugu touch took birth. The song became a super hit and an all-time favourite.
